Appearance: medium to deep gold with delicate, yet persistent mousse. Nose: very complex nose of mellowed citrus fruits, nutty aromas and aged autolytic characteristics (hazlenuts, sour-dough bread, biscuits, pastries etc.). Palate: mellowed, but still lively acidity, lovely citrus aromas and a delicate savoury palate with very good length. Conclusion: a stupendous Champagne vintage and a very good wine indeed. This is Chardonnay-dominated and really shows the class Champagnes of this age can show (arguably, Chardonnay-based vintage wines need even longer to settle down and tame their often aggressive acidity). Very good.
